A Place Where Language Lives

In August 2025, Gichi-Mikinaak Lodge hosted Bimose Tribal Council’s inaugural Anishinaabemowin Mamaandodaatiwin.

The four-day camp brought beginner, intermediate and advanced Anishinaabemowin speakers together for an immersive experience focused on language learning and cultural connection.

The camp was designed to support the sustainability and expansion of Anishinaabe language knowledge, and it is exactly the kind of gathering Gichi-Mikinaak was created to support.

Land-Based Learning

Gichi-Mikinaak Lodge offers a setting where learning can happen on the land, on the water and around the fire – not just inside a meeting room.

The surrounding land and waters of Eagle Lake can become part of language learning, cultural teachings, community gatherings and hands-on experiences.

Whether it’s a language camp, traditional teaching, outdoor activity or simply creating space to reconnect with the land, Gichi-Mikinaak offers room to learn in a different way.
